Dr Fenny M. Dwivany earned her PhD in Biology from The University of Melbourne Melbourne in
2003. She is an Associate Professor at The School of Life Science and Technology (SITH) – Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Her research interest in banana has made her group called as the “Banana Group” (www.thebananagroup.org). The group’s research projects focused on genetic diversity, disease and fruit ripening which are conducted by multidiscipline researchers such as genetics, multi-omics, physiology, nanomaterial science, space biology as well as industrial design. Her group has been involved in Space Biology Research since 2007 with LAPAN, Indonesia and JAXA, Japan. In 2011 the team successfully sent Indonesian tomato seeds to the International Space Station (ISS) in Space Seeds for Asian Future program and grew the tomato plants as the first Indonesian space biology experiment. She is also known as one of Forum Peneliti Muda Indonesia (ForMIND: www.formind.or.id) and Bali International Research Center for Banana (BIRCB) founders. Since 2016, she became a member of Indonesian Young Academy of Science.
Dr Dwivany’s prior accolades include the International Unesco-L’Oreal for Women in Science Fellowship (2007), an Australian Endeavour Award (2010) and Schlumberger Award in Faculty for the Future (2011). She received the Science and Technology Award 2012 (Women Researchers category) from the Indonesian President on the occasion of the 17th National Technology Day held by the Ministry of Research and Technology as well as Karya Inovasi 2015 from Institut Teknology Bandung. For her research achievement she obtained several awards from media such as Femina, TEMPO, NOVA and CLARA magazine as one of Indonesian Inspiring Woman.
Fruit & Ripening: How to control fruit ripening? This lecture will discuss fruit ripening process in molecular level and several methods to control the process using genetic engineering, environment modification and nanotechnology.
Plant Genetic Engineering: How to modify plant gene? This lecture will discuss plant gene structure and basic methods to control plant gene expression using genetic engineering.
Its application in different fields will also be discussed.
